Most seized squatters are Romanian

NEARLY half of those caught breaking new anti-squatting laws in London are from Romania, police figures have revealed.

The figures will increase concerns about the impact of the expected influx of Romanians and Bulgarians into the UK when visa restrictions on Eastern Europeans are dropped at the end of the year.

The new figures, released by the Met under freedom of information laws, provide a first snapshot of the impact of the squatting legislation. Since the law came into effect, there have been 75 offences of squatting, committed by 92 offenders scattered across London.
