Eight men from Romania have been rescued and taken to ‘a place of safety’ after a dawn raid by police investigating claims of modern slavery at a site near Trowbridge in Wiltshire this morning.
A huge operation is underway at a site in Semington, which was raided by police with eight ‘potential victims’ taken away to be cared for.
The eight Romanians ‘rescued’ from a travellers’ site at Semington, near Trowbridge, by police are receiving ‘medical care and support’, police said last night.
Wiltshire police issued a statement after rumours spread around the town that the eight Romanians taken from the site in Semington had actually returned to live there.
Three men from the travellers’ site had been released on police bail after they were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking offences.
A police spokesman said reports of their return were ‘absolutely not true’, and they were still being looked after and helping police with their investigation.
