A 43-YEAR-OLD man from Romania has been charged with careless driving following a collision in Southend, which left a 77-year-old woman with serious injuries.
Police were called at 1pm yesterday (Friday) to the scene in Sutton Road following reports of a road traffic collision between a lorry and pedestrian.
Firefighters attended the incident outside Southend Fire Station and the woman was then airlifted to Royal London Hospital, where she is in a critical condition.
Marcel Georgescu has been remanded in custody to appear at Southend Magistrates Court on Monday, 1 September 1.
Police are still looking to identify the drivers of three vehicles who were approaching the scene at the time of the incident and are potential witnesses. These are; A white transit van with signwriting travelling towards Rochford, a white box van with a tail lift travelling towards Southend and a white transit van without signwriting also travelling towards Southend. The driver of this vehicle stopped and approached the scene. The driver had dark hair and was wearing a white t-shirt.
