Romania’s Prime Minister has backed plans for a clampdown on migrants’ access to benefits as he tries to defuse fears of a wave of people leaving his country at the end of the year.
Victor Ponta insisted that Romanians going to Western European countries were seeking education and work, not welfare payments, and added that the big wave of emigration from his country had been and gone half a decade ago.
