TRAFFICKERS have found a new source of modern-day slaves, luring disabled Romanians to Britain and forcing them to beg on the high street.
In one case, a 35-year-old deaf and mute woman who was promised a better life in the West Midlands was lent a young child to increase her takings. She was beaten when she did not produce enough money. When she used sign language to tell police of her plight, they discovered other deaf Romanians being held against their will in a criminal enterprise to exploit the generosity of the public.
