The number of deaths from a fire that tore through a Bucharest club could double, Romania’s health minister has warned.
Two young women, aged 25 and 31, died of severe burns on Sunday, after being rescued from the flames that engulfed the nightclub, raising the death toll to 29.
Raed Arafat said that people should be braced for the death toll to increase because of toxic gas. “After the analysis that was done today, we concluded that … it is still possible for the number of deaths to double.”
The minister added: „In addition to burns on people’s bodies, there are aggravating factors. They were in an enclosed space where they inhaled toxic gas. That automatically increases the case complexity and reduces life chances.
