Romanians have arrived in Britain at a "reasonable level" since labour restrictions affecting them were lifted on January 1, according to David Cameron – even though he has not seen any figures.
The Prime Minister vowed to win back people who have switched allegiance to Ukip over immigration concerns and acknowledged the number of people coming to our shores remains “too high.”
But this morning he repeated his claim that it is impossible to extend the now expired labour restrictions.
He also said he shared the frustrations of MPs threatening to vote in the Commons in favour of reimposing a ban on workers from the two European Union member states, but urged rebels not to risk derailing the other "very sensible" curbs in the Immigration Bill.
